Title: Wuxi: Rethinking “Carbon neutral city”
Abstract: Supporting environmental protection and sustainable economic growth are currently the main policy pursuits of local and provincial governments in China. However, most consider the goals as conflicting, and varying degrees of success have been achieved. One outlier has been the city of Wuxi, which has exhibited significant success in achieving both policy objectives. Through the analysis of government and industry-sourced metrics, this chapter seeks to analyze how Wuxi has achieved these two seemingly conflicting goals without incurring significant unsustainable financial burdens. Moreover, this chapter attempts to highlight and analyze policies and regulations put in place by the Wuxi government that may be of value to
policymakers elsewhere.
